1975 was an alright year 1976 was better. If Armageddon had come in the Autumn of 75. I never would have had one of the best years of my life.

Were you 'alive in '75' and how was that year for you?
by punkofnice ini was a junior borgite in 1975. i remeber looking at the calendar at work in october and thinking: 'armageddon isn't here yet.....and it doesn't feel like it will be here anytime soon either!'.
i was surprised that jehovah hadn't obeyed the superior command to bring the big 'a' as instructed to him by fred franz.
how dare god disobey the jw leader!!!!!.

You too can live like the Judge
by TD infor only $2.99 you can own a yellow 1930's cadillac cabriolet, the envy of every rich playboy in hollywood at the time:.
of course at 1/64 scale, this one's a little small.
if you want something with a little more substance, i guess you're going to have to wrangle control of an entire religion and convince people to throw money at you....

What is it with all the men waking up but the wives stay in? Why is it the opposite for me?
by Cadellin inthis is something i've thought about for a while now.
it seems like the same story on this board over and over--the husband, who also might be an elder, ms, etc.--starts having doubts and researching, aka miseryloveselders and franklin massey and others.
he starts to smell the coffee and realizes that this organization isn't what it claims to be.

The sisters I know. One. She has a good education and is a smart woman with a good job. She stays as she agrees with most of the basics and she has friends and she can keep a relative low profile in the congregation as a sister.
Two. She was raised in the truth and has an Elder husband strong minded woman but loves the worldwide brotherhood and will put up a fair argument for the "Truth" again not too much is demanded of her in the congregation.
Three. She is a very smart woman had a good job and born in. Elder father. Only a basic knowledge of the "truth" but has alot of friends.
I could go on with a few more. In my view sisters get on more socially and little is demanded of them from the organization. However I think the reason people leave is it has to touch them personally. If it doesn't, male or female they will stay.

Do you think a lot of JWs are ashamed of their beliefs?
by I quit! inthe reason i asked this is because i'm going to the funeral of a man who wasn't a jw.
my mother-in-law has lived in the same neighborhood as him for years and knows his wife.
i asked her if she was going attend the funeral service.

Ashamed I think is the wrong word for me. I witnessed to my school mates and teachers. I also witnessed to the people I worked with. I felt uncomfortable sometimes when it was someones birthday and I had nothing to do with it at my place of work, unlike the Elder in the Art Department who made the card.
I thought God wiping clean the Earth and removing all wickedness and only wanting us to love righteousness was a great idea that needed telling to other people.

Have you ever thought about, what is nothing? If you did, did it make your head hurt?
by miseryloveselders inas a born in jw, i've always believed that jehovah had no beginning per say.
at the same time i've had the house and watch having a creator argument stamped within my brain for use against evolutionists.
some days its difficult rationalising god's existance as having always been, with everything else needing to be created by him.

I don't think we can comprehend nothing just as "it is impossible to conceive .. the process of division carried on to infinity" (Mansel.)

Are you a TRUE Christian?!?
by brotherdan ini've been thinking alot over the past few days on what makes a christian a christian, and i'm coming to some different conclusions than i ever have.... the watchtower likes to use the term "true believers" or "true christians".
i'm at a loss here lately.
you are either an atheist or you are not.

Curtains,
The Ex Witness who said to me "There are sheep on many hills" I think was quoting from a book.
Ding,
Matthew 7:7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you." (NIV)
Later in Matthew 7:21-23 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ (NIV)
Which seems to indicate that some who claim Christianity are not TRUE Christians
Jesus taught Nicodemus in John 3:3
“Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” (NIV)
“Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again. (NIV)
Which is why I quoted 1 Corinthians 15:45 "So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit."(NIV)
As a JW I believed I would remain flesh and therefore not born of the Spirit. Therefore not a TRUE Christian.

Ding,
I don't think it is my place to say who is born again or is'nt. Somebody said to me "there are sheep on many hills"

Getting upset with children who cannot sit through the meetings.
by life is to short inok this thought came to me the other day.
i was thinking of the co who told me that he liked to see parents spank their children for not sitting still during the meetings.. i remember how hard it was to sit through two hours when i was four or five years old.
it was like forever.. i was thinking of comparing the hours that we have been alive to how long two hours is for a child.

As a child I found the kingdom hall was the most dreadfully boring two plus hours ever concocted by man. The three hour assembly sessions were even worse.
My daughter had a video which she loved to watch and wore it out watching it but like any young child she could not sit through the hour and half movie. I wouldn't consider trying to make my daughter or son still through those boring meetings. My children have done really well academically.
I got in to trouble for not looking happy in the field service when I was 4 and we'd spent the last hour arguing with the householder. I was in short trousers and it was a cold and frosty morning. I think it is disgusting what the JW's have subjected children to over the years.
